From Press Release
The Hofstra Women’s Lacrosse team was picked fourth in the preseason Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Coaches Poll, released Tuesday.
Two-time defending CAA champion James Madison has been predicted to win the CAA women’s lacrosse title in 2012 according to a vote by the league’s eight head coaches.
JMU received six first-place votes and 48 points overall as coaches are not permitted to vote for their own team. Towson claimed the second spot, picking up the remaining two-place votes and 43 total points. Drexel was chosen third with 31 points, followed by Hofstra with 26 points in fourth. Delaware and William & Mary each totaled 29 points for fifth, while Old Dominion was selected seventh with 18 points. Rounding out the preseason poll was George Mason with 10 points.
Hofstra looks to reclaim the CAA title for the first time since 2007 and features junior midfielder Jill Maier, who was a first team All-CAA selection. Maier led the Pride with 37 goals and 43 draw controls. Also returning for Hofstra is junior attacker Claire Brady, who dished out a team-best 17 assists last year to go along with 15 goals. Sophomore midfielder Jenn Ward contributed 15 goals for the Pride. Senior goalkeeper Jaclyn Pandolf returns in the cage after leading the league in save percentage (.491) and saves per game (9.94) a season ago.
Hofstra begins the 2012 campaign on Saturday, February 18 when it travels to Colgate for a 3 p.m. contest.
The CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship is scheduled to get underway April 27 with semifinal action and the title contest is slated for April 29.
