Men’s lacrosse: Hofstra No. 14 in USILA Division I pre-season rankings

The Hofstra Pride Men’s Lacrosse team is ranked 14th in the 2012 Unites States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I Preseason Coaches Poll, the USILA announced today.

The Pride received 93 points in the balloting by a select panel of 14 head lacrosse coaches. Virginia, the defending national champions, holds the top spot, receiving all 14 first place votes and 280 points. John Hopkins (236 points), Cornell and Duke (235), and Denver (211) round out the top five.

A total of eight Hofstra opponents are included in the USILA Preseason Top 20 Poll led by the Tar Heels of North Carolina, who are ranked sixth. Hofstra and UNC will meet in Charlotte, North Carolina on April 14 as the second game of the ESPNU Warrior Classic. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, who are ranked ninth, will visit James M. Shuart Stadium on March 10. Harvard, ranked 13th, will host the Pride on March 3 while Princeton, ranked 16th, will entertain Hofstra on February 25.

Colonial Athletic Association foe Massachusetts leads four conference opponents ranked in the top 20 coming in at number 11. Other ranked CAA opponents include Penn State at 17, Delaware at 19 and Drexel at 20.
