Under Armour Tryouts
The girls’ tryouts dates have been set for the Long Island team in the annual Under Armour Underclassmen Games June 29-July 1 at Towson University. Tryouts will be held June 5-6 from 6-to-10 p.m. at the Field of Dreams Park in Massapequa. The coach is Northport’s Carol Rose. The 10-team tournament will features 10 teams in all, including squads from Baltimore, Philadelphia (PA/Delaware), Midwest, New England, New Jersey, South, Upstate NY and Washington, D.C. and West.
Navy Youth Day Camp, Annapolis Md., ages 5 to 12, two sessions. The first session is June 18-19 and the second is June 20-21. This camp is specifically designed to teach and develop the fundamental skills of the game: throwing, catching, shooting, ground balls, offensive and defensive skills, feeding and confidence level improvement, in a fun and educational atmosphere. Navy Elite Gold Camp, Annapolis, Md., for rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, will be held June 21-23. This challenging camp is designed for the elite lacrosse player who aspires to play lacrosse in college. The sessions are intense, highly competitive, and emphasize high level techniques, skills and strategies. Evening sessions include full-field games. Goalie instruction will be offered. Navy Open Blue Camp, Annapolis, Md., July 5-7, for rising seventh, eighth and ninth-graders. This camp is designed for players of all ability levels. There is a strong emphasis on mastering skills as well as moving on to more advanced parts of the game. Sessions will focus on individual skills, team concepts and full field play. Fifteenth Annual Jay Gallagher Memorial Tournament, hosted by The Garden City youth lacrosse program and Jay Gallagher Memorial Foundation, on June 16-17. The tournament raises funds and public awareness for the Andy Foundation, Mollie Biggane Melanoma Foundation and the Miracle Foundation. Over 120 teams from the Northeast will participate with over 4,000 players, coaches, and parents attending the event. Games will be held at St. Paul’s, Garden City Middle School and Garden City High School.
The Jay Gallagher Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving cancer awareness, improving the lives of those diagnosed with cancer, and finding a cure for the disease. This year’s tournament will involve 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade boy’s divisions and 4th, 5th and 6th grade girl’s divisions. All games will be played between 10 AM and 4PM. The registration fee is $600.00 and includes all referees fees and tee shirts for the boys and girls. Last year’s tourney drew 120 teams and the first ever Challenger Lacrosse game in the Northeast. The program is geared to providing athletic opportunities to children with mental and physical disabilities (ages 6-21).
Inaugural Summer Slam Lacrosse Tournament for girls Saturday June 30, Sunday July 1, 2012 at The Westtown School in West Chester, PA. Run by the Pattison Sports Group and NXTsports, the Summer Slam Lacrosse Tournament will host high school and girls’ youth lacrosse teams from across the country. The tournament will consist of six girls’ divisions, three high school divisions and three youth divisions. Each team is guaranteed five games throughout the weekend and teams playing for divisional Summer Slam titles will play to a Championship.
Girls’ Youth Divisions will start Saturday morning with the High School Showcase beginning Saturday afternoon. Both divisions will conclude with championship play on Sunday.
