Senior captains Kyle Moeller (Ward Melville) and Robbie Campbell (Delta, British Columbia) were drafted by the Long Island Lizards in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft Jan. 14.
Moeller went in the fifth round (36th overall) and Campbell was chosen in the eighth round (60th overall).
Moeller earned All-America East first team honors in 2011. After transferring from Manhattan, Moeller started all 14 games, leading all Seawolves defenders with 45 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. He’s started each of the 45 career games he’s appeared in.
An All-America East selection in 2011, Campbell is the team’s returning leading scorer. He scored 17 goals and added 10 assists for the Seawolves, who advanced to their third straight America East title in 2011. He tallied a career-high four goals, all in the fourth quarter, in a 10-8, come-from-behind victory over Hartford in the regular season.
Six Stony Brook players have been drafted by the MLL in the last two years.
Stony Brook opens the 2012 season at Fairfield on February 18.
