Men’s recruit: Rome Free Academy senior midfielder Sbarglia commits to Stony Brook

Rome Free Academy senior midfielder Dylan Sbarglia has committed to play Division I lacrosse at Stony Brook University.

Graduation Year: 2012

Position: Midfield

College Choice: Stony Brook University

Club Affiliation: CNY Roadhawks, Syracuse

Major lacrosse honors: 3 year captain. Junior Year Stats, 40 goals, 16 assists, 63 groundballs, team MVP and high scorer, Section III League All Star, NSCLA All American.

Academic honors: Academic Honor Roll

What will you major in/study? Business Management

Other Schools Considered: Colgate, Bucknell, Delaware, Binghamton

Why did you choose Stony Brook? “Of all the schools visited, Coach(Jim)Nagle and Coach(Craig)Gibson made me feel the most comfortable plus the University and the area are really into lacrosse. I had been talking to Coach Nagle while he was at Colgate. I committed Summer 2011 and signed in November. Can’t wait to get down there and to get on the field.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for the season? “Rome is in Section III, a central NY league full of powerhouse teams from Syracuse. Hoping to make an impact in sectionals this year.”

Additional comments: “Of course my parents who supported me and took me all over to play in showcases. My club team coach Mike Stagnitta and especially my high school coach Guy Calandra. Coach Calandra was a great help throughout my high school career and the recruiting process.”
