Senior attackman Taylor Reynolds (Babylon) and senior faceoff specialist Logan West (Berlin, Md.) have been selected by their peers to serve as co-captains for the 2011-12 Navy men’s lacrosse season.

It’s just the 12th time in the 105 years of storied lacrosse history at the Naval Academy in which there have been co-captains and the first since the 2006 campaign when Jon Birsner and Matt Russell shared duties.

“While I was not here at the time Taylor and Logan were voted captains, upon my arrival it did not take very long for me to realize why they were chosen to lead the 2012 team,” said first-year Navy head coach Rick Sowell, the former coach at Stony Brook. “Not only do they lead by example, but when the situation calls for it, they will not hesitate to step up and say the right thing or do what needs to be done. They have played an integral part in making my transition to the team a smooth one.”

After seeing time his first two seasons primarily as a rider, Reynolds earned his way onto the Mids’ starting attack line in 2011 where he scored 10 goals and added a pair of assists. He was also a member of the Mids’ extra-man squad that scored goals on 19 of its 55 attempts (.345) and was ranked 22nd nationally. An oceanography major, Reynolds has also excelled in the classroom where he was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2011 after achieving a 3.20 GPA for the spring semester. He continued that success this past fall, earning his first appearance on the Dean’s List after registering a 3.75 GPA, his highest while at the Academy.

Upon graduation in May, Reynolds will be commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy where he will serve as a surface warfare officer.
