Huntington senior defense Danielle Cochrane has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Washington and Jefferson College.

Danielle Cochrane log:

Danielle Cochran (foreground, white jersey)

High School: Huntington High School

Graduation Year: 2012

Position: Defense

College Choice: Washington and Jefferson College

Club Affiliation: Team Elevate Lacrosse

Academic honors, service projects: “Aside from athletics, my favorite activities have been marching band and student government. As an officer of student government, I have been a part of organizing several community service projects such as “Stuff the Bus,” when we filled an entire school bus with non perishable food items to donate to the local food pantries. I am an AP student, and am involved in several clubs, for example the National English Honor Society, and President of National French Honor Society.”

What will you major in/study? “I am majoring in Political Science, while fulfilling pre-medicine requirements.”

Why did you choose Washington & Jefferson? “I am very passionate about my academics, in addition to lacrosse so I was drawn in by W&J’s strong academic programs, especially in my area of study.

What really stood out to me was how welcoming the coaches were when I visited campus. I also really loved spending time with the players on the team. It was easy to see that the girls share strong bonds with each other, which is very important to me. As I learned more about W&J’s lacrosse program, I saw that they are a very competitive team, and I am so excited to contribute to that success. I knew right away that this was a program I would love to become a part of.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for the season?” “My Huntington team has been through a lot together. A defining characteristic of ours has always been to pull through and overcome challenges that have affected us all. This past year we definitely graduated a strong group of seniors, but there are so many younger girls ready to step up to the plate. We have a lot of talent on our team this year, and we’re excited to get started. I think we are headed towards a very successful season.”

Additional comments: “Dave Kotowski is my coach from Team Elevate, and I definitely owe him a big “Thank You!”. I only recently joined his team in my junior year, but in that short time he taught me so much about the game. This past year he was so helpful throughout the recruitment process, and really showed how much he cares about every one of his players.

Nancy Wilson is my coach at Huntington, and she has made the past four years so memorable. She really ties our team together with a sense of unity and family, which has helped lead us to success.

I will definitely miss my coaches, but they have taught me so much that I will take with me to college.”
