Registration is now open for the 9th Annual Liberty Lacrosse Shootout, a boys’ youth lacrosse festival in Malvern, Pennsylvania.
The event will take place June 9-10, 2012 at the Greater Chester Valley Soccer Association’s Line Road Complex, which features eight sprinklered and well-groomed fields.
The Liberty Shootout has become one of the most popular youth festivals in the Mid-Atlantic region, drawing teams Greater Philadelphia, Central PA, the Lehigh Valley, New Jersey and neighboring hotbeds within a few hours’ drive. Over 100 teams and 2500 youth players are expected to participate. Warrior has been the principal sponsor of the Shootout for 7 years.
Liberty is a day tournament, with U-9 and U-13 teams playing on Saturday and U-11 and U-15 teams playing on Sunday. Teams can register to play in either A or B brackets, though all U-9 teams play in one bracket on smaller-sized fields (7 v 7), often generating the most noise. Teams will play at least 3 games in diverse pools within their respective age groups. The competition is strong at each level, rules are designed to ensure games remain competitive; pool winners advance in a playoff format.
Additionally, teams in each age group will be recognized for sportsmanship based largely on sportsmanship scorecards kept by certified officials and site marshals after each game, taking into account the spirit of the game and conduct on both sides of the field, including spectators.
Team tents will abound and teams can count on a great day of lacrosse and camaraderie in a highly festive atmosphere that will feature food, refreshments, Vendor Village and the Warrior Fun Zone. For anyone interested in side trips, Valley Forge National Park is just a short drive from the venue, as is the site of the Paoli Massacre, where the British surprised General “Mad” Anthony Wayne’s unsuspecting garrison.
You can visit the Tournament Information page in the first instance for additional details regarding age groups, relevant dates, tournament philosophy (Honor the Game!) and general parameters. To register as a team, kindly visit the event’s Registration page. Please do so before March 31, to take advantage of the “early bird discount.”
The Shootout has been oversubscribed for the last 8 years, so coaches and program administrators are encouraged to register for the Shootout early, space is limited and it is anticipated the event will fill up quickly.
