ASA College men’s team announces first recruiting class

ASA College head coach Vince Daniels has announced the initial recruits in the lacrosse program’s history.

The Avengers will begin National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) competition in the 2012 season. The program becomes the first junior college lacrosse team in New York City. Many of the players are from the city and Brooklyn as well as Long Island.

Travis Gordon, Attack, Hempstead High School, NY
Gordon was a Nassau All-County selection his senior year. The 6’3” 230 lbs attackman scored 51 goals for the Tigers. He was also an All-Conference selection in both basketball and football.

Brian Deliz, Midfield, Long Island City High School, NY
Deliz was a three sport varsity athlete for the Bulldogs. He helped lead the lacrosse team to a 13-3 record and the PSAL B finals in 2011 after winning the championship in 2010. Brian was also a wide receiver on the LIC football team and was selected to the Queens All-Star football team. He also played on the LIC basketball team that went to PSAL A finals.

Gerard Hennessy, Attack, Long Island City High School, NY
Hennessy was a two year starter on attack for the Bulldogs. He helped lead the team to a 13-3 record and the PSAL B finals in 2011 after winning the championship in 2010. His senior year he had 13 goals and 13 assists and picked up 21 ground balls.

Johnny Deliz, Defense, Long Island City High School, NY
Deliz was a starter on defense for the Bulldogs. He was defensive captain of the PSAL B championship team in 2010. Johnny was also a linebacker on the LIC football team.

Parris Douglas, Midfield, Frederick Douglass Academy, NY
Douglas averaged over 1.5 goals per game for the Lions during his high school career. The 6’1” 180lbs middie was ranked 16th in total goals scored during the 2009 PSAL season.

Anthony Grant, Defense, Christopher Columbus High School, NY
Grant was a two year starter for the Sharks. He helped lead the team to a 12-2 record and its first PSAL A Championship in 2010. Grant was named defensive captain his senior year in 2011. He also played football for Columbus and was a defensive end and tight end.

Coltin Borthwick, Attack, Claremont Secondary School, British Columbia, Canada
Borthwick played in the British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League (BCJALL) for both the Victoria Shamrocks and Burnaby Lakers. Prior to that he played for the Nanaimo Timbermen and was top 5 in scoring in the Intermediate A league. Coltin also won a bronze medal at the 2006 men’s U-19 Canadian field lacrosse championships and was a silver medalist at the same championships in 2007.

Blake Duncan, Goal, New Westminster Secondary School, British Columbia, Canada
Duncan was a starter in the BCJALL for the past three years with the Delta Islanders. He was a nominee for Goalie of the Year in 2010 on NLL Insider. He was a gold medalist at the Canadian National field lacrosse championships in 2008 and was named MVP of the U-19 national tournament. He was also a gold medalist two years in a row in the BC provincial box lacrosse league intermediate A. Duncan was MVP of the provincial box lacrosse championships in 2007. In 2009 and 2010 he was a gold medalist in the BC provincial field lacrosse championships and was chosen MVP both years.


Matthew Edwin, Midfield, Westhill High School, CT
Edwin was short stick defensive middie and faceoff man for the Vikings. He received honorable mention All-FCIAC honors.

Brandon Goodwin, Midfield, New Westminster Secondary School, British Columbia, Canada
Goodwin played in the BCJALL with the New Westminster Salmonbellies and played in the 2010 Minto Cup. In 2011 he finished top 10 in scoring, and was named to the 2nd All-Star team. Goodwin won 2 Intermediate A Championships with New Westminster. He also won the NDP Tournament of Champions 2 years in a row and was named tournament MVP the second year. In 2010 was a gold medalist in the BC provincial field lacrosse league.

Casey Jackson, Attack, Claremont Secondary School, British Columbia, Canada
Jackson helped lead the Coquitlam Adanacs to the Minto Cup finals in 2011 and was tied for the leading scorer in the Minto Cup. In 2010 he was named to the BCJALL 1st All-Star team, finished 2nd in league scoring and was a finalist for the Junior of the Year on NLL Insider.
