Liberty head coach Regan Denham has inked the programs largest recruiting class in history, as nine student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to join the Lady Flames for the 2013 lacrosse season.
The class of nine— attack Natalie Silver (Kings Park), Kelly Belue, Kallie Britton, Juliann Elmer, Kelly Garrett, Christina Hammond, Alyssa Kidder, Lindsey Spence and Melanie Via—brings in an assortment of position players which come from seven different states.
“This year’s recruiting class will help take our program to the next level, especially as we begin our first season in the Big South in 2013,” stated Denham. “Their overall athletic ability and speed will improve our depth as a program.”
Natalie Silvers (A – Long Island, N.Y., Kings Park)
Silvers is looking forward to a successful senior campaign after earning multiple honors during her junior season at Kings Park High School. As an attacker, Silvers served as her team’s captain, and earned all-league and MVP honors. Silvers also competes on a club lacrosse team, the Yellow Jackets Long Island Elite. Competing in cross country and winter track, Silvers has helped her teams to multiple championships and served as the cross country captain in 2011.
Kelly Belue (M/A – Waxhaw, N.C.
Belue is a four-year letterwinner and varsity starter from Cuthbertson High School, where she also competes in cross country. She has led her squad in goals and assists, serving as varsity captain and also being voted team MVP. Belue’s athleticism shows in both of her sports, as she has been selected all-conference in both lacrosse and cross country.
Kallie Britton (A – Overland Park, Kan.
Britton has earned multiple distinctive accolades as a four-sport (lacrosse, basketball, soccer, golf) athlete. A four-year varsity captain at Blue Valley Northwest High School, Britton led her league in scoring in 2010 and helped her team to a conference championship in 2011.
Juliann Elmer (GK – Phoenix, Md.
After beginning her high school career with a junior varsity regional championship, Elmer has become a three-year letterwinner at the varsity level at Dulaney High School. Outside of her high school experience, Elmer has been a starting goalie for the ROME Club Lacrosse team since 2008 and helped the team to a third place finish at the Club National Championship in 2010. Elmer has also been a part of Baltimore Metro Teams.
Kelly Garrett (M – Winter Springs, Fla.
Garrett has been part of multiple district titles while competing for Winter Springs High School. In 2011, her team finished as Florida state runners-up, defeating the fifth-ranked team in the state as part of their run. Outside of her high school experience, the midfielder competes for club teams RC Elite and Hericanes. Garrett has also competed on the swimming team.
Christina Hammond (D – Cranston, R.I.
Hammond is a three-sport student-athlete at Cranston High School West. She has competed three years in lacrosse, serving as a co-captain for the 2011 season and being part of the Rhode Island All-Star Lacrosse team in 2010. The defender competes for the Team Real club lacrosse team. Hammond has also competed in soccer and indoor track.
Alyssa Kidder (A – Carthage, N.Y.
Kidder is coming off a productive 2011 season where she posted 27 goals and seven assists as she played as an attacker for the first time at Carthage High School. Previously playing midfield, the senior has tallied 45 groundballs in her three seasons of competition. Last year, her Carthage team advanced to the Section 3 championship game. Kidder participates in club lacrosse, playing for the Different Roads Patriots club team. S
Lindsey Spence (GK – Orlando, Fla.
As a freshman, Spence started several games at the junior varsity level for Timber Creek High School before getting called up to play varsity later in the year. The goalkeeper has been a varsity player ever since and participated on the Florida National Team as a sophomore.
Melanie Via (D – Blacksburg, Va.
Via, who attends Blacksburg High School, has participated on both the New River Valley Lacrosse Club (NRVLC) and the Roanoke Valley Lacrosse Club. She has been named to the all-valley first team three-consecutive years and has served as co-captain of her NRVLC team which finished the season with a 10-5 mark.
