Adelphi’s Eric Janssen (Hicksville) and Erica Devito (Shoreham-Wading River) are among four finalists nominated for Division II Preseason Lacrosse Players of the Year according to Lacrosse Magazine.
The seniors return to their respective teams for their final year of lacrosse in a Panther uniform with hopes to make it back to the National Championship stage.
Janssen earned ECAC Division II All-Star Status to compliment his All-American recognition in the form of Second Team honors. Additionally, he was a First-Team All-NE-10 selection, was named the NE-10 Tournament MVP as well as Goalkeeper of the Year. He started all 19 games, made 222 saves in 1017:16 minutes of action, posted a 6.84 goals against average and had a .657 save percentage during the 2011 season.
Devito was also an ECAC Division II All-Star and received Second Team All-American honors at midfield. She was third on the all-time points list at 277 and second on the all-time goals list at 207. Additionally, she is just the third player in Panther history to surpass the 100 point mark in a single season. Lastly, she was earned an NE-10 First Team All-Conference nod and was named the NE-10 Tournament MVP and First Team All-Region.
Also nominated was C.W. Post senior attackman Eddie Plompen (West Islip) for the men and Dowling senior attack Brooke Witkowski (Lindenhurst) for the women. Plompen scored 54 goals for the Pioneers and Witkowski is Division II’s leading-returning point scorer and was second in the country with 120 points in 2011.
