Five Adelphi men’s players named to Face-Off Yearbook Division II Pre-Season All-American team

Adelphi University had five players named Face-Off Yearbook 2012: Division II Preseason All-Americans. Joe Vitale was a first-team selection, while both Danny Blau and Eric Janssen were named second-team and Shane Wynn and Jeff Melsopp were each honored with inclusion as honorable mention selections.

Vitale (Lynbrook), a First-Team All-American selection in 2011 as a midfielder, was a First-Team All-NE-10 selection as well. He led the Panthers in points (70), assists (30), and is second in goals (40). He was also 12th in the nation with 1.58 assists per game and ninth with 3.68 points per game.

Blau (Farmingdale), an attackman, garnered Second-Team All-American recognition last season. He is also a two-time First-Team All-NE-10 selection, and was fourth on the team with 48 points, third in assists with 22, and fifth in goals with 26.

A Second-Team USILA All-American in 2011, Janssen (Hicksville) is coming off of a stellar junior season. He was the NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Year, posted a 6.84 goals against average, a .657 save percentage, and recorded 222 saves. Janssen’s save percentage was tied for tops in the nation and his goals against average ranked sixth.

Wynn (Oceanside), a versitle midfielder, received All-American Honorable Mention status last spring and was also named a Second-Team All-NE-10 honoree. Wynn was second on the team with 51 points, fourth with 28 goals, second with 23 assists, and had a .573 face-off win percentage.

Melsopp (Wantagh) rounds out Adelphi Preseason All-America selections and is the only Panther defender on the list. He was a Northeast-10 All-Rookie selection in 2010 and appeared in all 19 games. Melsopp grabbed 51 ground balls and scored three points, on one goal and two assists.

The Panthers open the season on March 3 when they travel to Albany, New York to take on the College of Saint Rose.
