Women’s recruit: Shoreham-Wading River junior Bushell commits to Northwestern

Shoreham-Wading River junior defender/midfielder Meredith Bushell has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Northwestern University.

Position: Defense/Midfield

College choice: Northwestern

Club affiliation: Long Island Express

Lacrosse honors: Sophomore-US School girls team, Scholar athlete for Field Hockey/Lacrosse, All-County as sophomore.

Academic honors: Honor Roll

Intended major: Undecided

Why did you choose Northwestern? “I picked Northwestern because it offers a great education and the ability to compete at a high level. Also, you get coached by one of the best coaches (Kelly Amonte-Hiller) in the nation.

HS team’s outlook for 2012: “My high school outlook for next year is going to be great. I am so pumped and so excited. I believe that we can go very far; we have an awesome group of girls on and off the field that are so determined to show everyone what Shoreham lacrosse is really about.

“We have the skills, athletes and coaching staff to make it really far.”

Other comments: “I have so many people to thank; my parents, my high school coach, Mary Bergman, for her commitment to our success in all aspects on the field and onto college; and my travel team coaches for teaching me how to play lacrosse at the next level, Shalyn Blaney, Kristen Anderon, Mrs. Blaney and Mr. Schwalje.
