From Press Release
The National Scholastic Club Lacrosse Association (NSCLA) announced today the organization has engaged MVP, llc to direct the Third Annual NSCLA Champions Cup.
Under the proven experience of Coaches Jim Stagnitta (Tournament Director), Bob Shillinglaw and Greg Carroll (Site Coordinators), the 2012 event will take place on June 16 & 17, 2012 on the campus of the University of Delaware.
The Champion’s Cup features Rising Senior (2013) and Rising Junior (2014) teams from each of the NSCLA member clubs in a 2-day championship format. The event has emerged as one of the premier recruiting tournaments of the summer.
Previously held in late July (7/30-31/2011), the Champions Cup has drawn an impressive list of the top collegiate coaches, with over 90 coaches attending the 2011 event. Moving the event to the traditional “opening day” of the summer recruiting season is a key improvement in the development of the showcase.
The NSCLA is a 501-C3 organization, which was formed in 2010 as an alliance of the top teaching/recruiting focused lacrosse clubs in North America. Currently the membership includes: Long Island Express, LB3 (founded by Ward Melville grad Liam Banks), Edge Elite (Canada), CNY Roadhawks, New Hampshire Tomahawks, Progression Lacrosse (Ct. Hurricanes), Patriot Lacrosse, Leading Edge, Madlax, Baltimore Lacrosse Club (Crabs), Roughriders, Carolina Select, True Lacrosse and Denver Elite.
“This will enable us to showcase our players in the best possible setting at the best possible time for the college coaches,” said Association Vice President Stu Brown of the Edge Elite Lacrosse Club. “We could not be happier with this decision… I would not be surprised to see 200+ coaches in attendance in 2012.”
With extensive experience directing highly successful recruiting tournaments, Coaches Stagnitta (head coach of Denver Outlaws, former coach of Rutgers), Shillinglaw (Delaware head coach) Carroll (Delaware assistant) and bring impressive records of success in tournament operation.
“When we were approached with this opportunity, we knew it would be great fit for us,” said Stagnitta. “We are pleased to partner with the NSCLA to bring this event to the UDEL Campus, it will definitely be a premier exposure event and we’re very happy to be part of it.”
