Men’s recruit: Smithtown East junior defenseman Triolo commits to Penn State

Smithtown East junior defenseman Peter Triolo has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Penn State University.

College Choice: The Pennsylvania State University

Club Affiliation: Team Smithtown

Major lacrosse honors: 2012 Team Captain; 2011 Defensive MVP; Suffolk County Rising Sophomore & Rising Junior; All Star @ Hotbeds; All Star @ Peak 200

Academic Honors: New York State Scholar Athlete 2010 & 2011; National Junior Honor Society; Spanish Honor Society; Honor Roll 2010 / 2011

What will you major in/study? “I’m thinking about pursuing a career in either engineering or medicine.”

Why did you choose school? “I was totally impressed with the coaching staff and the facilities. The coaches are building an outstanding program that I look forward to being a part of and the campus is awesome.”

What is your HS team’s outlook for next year? “I’m excited about our upcoming season. We just learned that we are the # 6 seed for our division in Suffolk County, and although we are a very young varsity team, we are strong and eager to win.”

Other comments: “I’d like to thank my high school and club lacrosse coaches. Without them none of this would be possible. I’d also like to thank all the college coaches who reached out to me. It was an honor to meet some of the best college coaches in the sport of lacrosse.

“And lastly, I’d like to thank my family, especially my mom and Dad, who have supported me through this entire process. They have taught me that there is no substitute for hard work and someday it would pay off. I will continue to work hard both in the classroom and on the lacrosse field.”
