St. John’s will return to the 2012 Konica Minolta Big City Classic with a matchup against BIG EAST rival Notre Dame University.  The Konica Minolta Big City Classic is a triple-header event that will bring some of the nation’s top lacrosse programs to Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on April 1, 2012.

“We are very excited to be a part of the Big City Classic again, and are grateful to Inside Lacrosse and Konika Minolta for including us,” said head lacrosse coach Jason Miller.  “Our team and fans had a great day at MetLife stadium last spring, and we will work hard to make 2012 even better.”

The Red Storm will play the opening game of the event at 1:00 p.m. which will be followed by Duke vs. Syracuse at 4:00 p.m. and North Carolina against Johns Hopkins at 6:30.  Duke, Syracuse, Notre Dame and Johns Hopkins were all quarterfinalists in the 2011 NCAA Lacrosse Championship.

The 2012 edition of the Big City Classic will mark St. John’s second appearance in the Inside Lacrosse event, as the Red Storm treated the Metlife Stadium crowd to a thrilling 9-8 victory over Rutgers University last year.  Charlie Holenstein led the way for St. John’s with four goals and Jeff Lowman played an inspired game in goal to keep Rutgers from mounting a comeback.

The Konica Minolta Big City Classic has established itself as one of the premier NCAA lacrosse events.  The event has attracted over 25,000 fans to the Meadowlands the past two seasons.  Tickets go on sale for the event on Nov. 15 through

“Konica Minolta’s sponsorship deal with us a few years ago was a true milestone for Inside Lacrosse and the sport,” said Bob Carpenter, publisher of Inside Lacrosse.  “We could not be more thrilled about working with Konica Minolta and continuing our strong partnership. It reinforces the belief that many partners have in us and the way work with them. It demonstrates Konica Minolta’s commitment to the sport and what we are trying to achieve at Inside Lacrosse. By bringing more people to these events, we can deliver a great fan experience and business opportunities for our sponsors.”
