Hofstra University Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Abby Morgan announced today her squad’s 2012 schedule, one that includes seven home games and also a road trip to California.
“We are very excited about our upcoming 2012 schedule,” commented Morgan. “There is a great mix of opponents that will challenge us every game and help us prepare for the CAA schedule. In addition, we are looking forward to hosting a perennial power in Maryland, along with a slew of other fine teams.”
The regular season schedule, which begins on February 18 at Colgate, features a total of 16 contests and culminates with a road tilt at Drexel on April 26.
Hofstra’s non-conference slate is littered with plenty of quality opponents as the nine teams combined for 100 victories and a winning percentage of 62%. In addition, of the nine non-conference opponents, eight had winning records, led by Maryland’s 21-2 mark in 2011.
The Pride open the season with a three-game road trip, starting with the contest at Colgate. Following that game Hofstra will close the month of February with games at Fairfield (February 22) and Boston College (February 25). The Stags and the Eagles each had successful seasons a year ago as they won 13 and 12 games, respectively.
There will be plenty of excitement surrounding Hofstra’s home opener in 2012 as the Maryland Terrapins visit James M. Shuart Stadium on March 4. Maryland was the national runner-up a season ago after winning the national title in 2010.
Hofstra continues its homestand after the Maryland tilt as Rutgers visits on March 10 and Penn State comes to Hempstead on March 14. Longtime rivals, Hofstra and Rutgers have gone to double overtime in each of the last two seasons. The Scarlet Knights won last season’s meeting, with the Pride picking up the victory in 2010.
Next on the schedule for the Pride will be a trip out west to Berkeley, California. Hofstra will play two games out there as they will first take on Denver in a neutral site contest on March 23 before facing Cal on the 25th.
The non-conference portion of the schedule closes on March 29 as Ohio State visits James M. Shuart Stadium. The Buckeyes compiled a record of 10-7 a season ago.
Hofstra will open Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play on April 6 when it travels to Harrisonburg, Virginia to take on James Madison. The Dukes went 15-4 in 2011 and are the defending conference champions.
After a pair of road games at George Mason and Towson, Hofstra will play its only three conference home games in a row, beginning with Delaware on April 15. The Pride will also host Old Dominion (April 20) and William & Mary (April 22) before closing the regular season at Drexel on April 26.
The CAA Championship will be held at the highest seed on May 5 (semifinals) and 7 (championship game).
