Drexel University Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Brian Voelker has announced the signing of 11 student-athletes to play lacrosse at the school this season. The class consists of three attackmen, six midfielders and two defensemen and features Chris Joyce (East Islip) and Nick Saputo (Huntington).

The three incoming attackmen are Cory Dobyns, Ryan Belka and Chris Frederick. Dobyns played at Georgetown Prep (Md.), where he scored more than 100 career goals and was an All-Metropolitan selection. Belka attended DeMatha (Md.) High School, where he scored 100 career goals and was twice named Second Team All-Conference. Frederick was a two-time First Team All-Conference pick and second all-time at South Carroll (Md.) in career points.

Joining the midfield for the upcoming season are Joyce, Saputo, James Esser, T.J. Foley, Mason Pynn and Clifton Simeon. Joyce earned his team’s Blue Collar Award and Saputo was his team’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Esser, a face-off specialist, played his high school ball at Stone Bridge in Virginia. He was an All-District midfielder as a senior. Foley was an All-American at Mahopac High School in New York. Pynn was a member of the Provincial box lacrosse championship team in 2010. Simeon is a Norwalk, Conn., native, where he was an All-Area player.

Donald Dalton and Pat Root are the newest members of the defense. Dalton comes to Drexel from Newport Beach, Calif., where he was a U.S. Lacrosse All-American at Corona Del Mar (CA) High School. Root hails from Hamilton, Ontario. He broke the St. Andrew’s record for scoring for a defenseman at the school and was on Ontario’s Under-19 team that won the Canadian title in 2010.

“We are really excited with our incoming class,” said Voelker. “We are looking forward to their arrival on campus and to the beginning of practice this fall.”
