Eighteen men’s college teams have committed to compete Oct. 8-9 in the 5th annual Nick Colleluori Classic at Ridley High in Folsom, just outside Philadelphia. The event benefits the HEADstrong Foundation and its fight against blood cancer in the name of the former Hofstra player.
Nine Division I teams – including Hofstra – will compete on Saturday, Oct. 8. Other teams include Philly’s Lehigh and St. Joseph’s as well as Cornell, Colgate, Marist, Michigan, Mount St. Mary’s, and Towson.
On the following day Division II Chestnut Hill College will be joined by Division III teams Neumann, Widener, Ursinus, Albright, Marywood, Scranton, St. Mary’s and Stockton. Another team may be added this week.
Nick Colleluori was a member of the Hofstra Lacrosse team from 2004 to 2006 and graduated from Ridley High in 2004. Nick may have lost his battle with blood cancer on November 28, 2006 but his vision has just begun.
The HEADstrong Foundation’s mission is to generate funds for cancer research, distribute grants and assistance to survivors of blood cancer, provide financial assistance to families that are experiencing the hardships of having a sick family member, and provide scholarships and grants for students with ambitions of entering the medical field.
More information on the tourney will be released in the coming weeks.
