Garden City junior attackman Justin Guterding has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Duke University.

Justin Guterding log:

Justin Guterding

High School: Garden City
Graduation Year: 2013
Position: Attackman
College Choice: Duke
Major lacrosse honors: Nike Blue Chip, Warrior 40, had 10 goals and 20 assists for Long Island Class ‘B’ Champions
Academic honors: 1st Honor Roll
What will you major in/study? I am not completely sure yet but I am thinking of business and hope to work on Wall Street.

Why did you choose school?
“I chose Duke for the education. I also have a great opportunity to win a national championship. The coaching staff just made my decision so much easier by the way they treated me when I went on my visit. I had no doubt in my mind it is the place for me.

What is your HS team’s outlook for next year? “I expect our team to get back to the state finals next year we have a great returning offensive group with hopefully Devin Dwyer and myself running the offense. Another great attackmen who will finish the ball in clutch spots is Liam Kennedy. Last but not least we also have our face-off man Rob Savage who will get possession for us 80% of the time and our next returning stud Pat Berkery, who will dominate on big stages once again.”

Other comments:
“I would like to thank my whole family for all of there support guiding me along the stressful process and always pushing me. Also would like to thank Tom Garvey (2-time all American at Hopkins defenseman) with helping me on my cradling and made me much more of a threat to dodge. Last but not least I would like to thank my high school coach, Steve Finnell. Coach gets on my back but I know it is because he thinks I can always get better, which is true. He helped me a lot with my decision, and was very excited to see me go to his alma mater.”
