From US Lacrosse
US Lacrosse has begun accepting applications from under-15 lacrosse teams for at-large bids to the fourth annual US Lacrosse U15 National Championship, set for July 24-29, 2012, in Orlando.
US Lacrosse will award 15 at-large bids to the 32-team girls’ tournament and 15 at-large bids to the 32-team boys’ tournament. This year’s tourneys were dominated by Long Island teams.
Coaches or team administrators may apply online at www.uslacrosse.org/2012u15nationalchampionship.
The US Lacrosse events staff will begin reviewing applications Sept. 1 and awarding at-large bids as early as that date.
“Many in the lacrosse community share our delight in seeing that lacrosse is now played by American youth from coast to coast,” said Beth
Porreca, director of special events at US Lacrosse. “US Lacrosse is committed to reflecting that national participation in our U15 National Championship, hence our plan is to not simply accept the first 15 applications for the at-large bids.
“We are searching for the best U15 teams from around the country to compete with class for the US Lacrosse U15 National Championship.”
Once awarded, the at-large teams will join the following defending national champions, runners-up, semifinalists, and sportsmanship
award winners from the 2011 US Lacrosse U15 National Championship, all of which receive automatic bids to the 2012 event:
Boys: national champion For the Love of the Game (N.Y.), runner-up Long Island Jesters (N.Y.), Long Island Express (N.Y.), NorCal Talons
(Calif.), and sportsmanship award winner Jacksonville Lacrosse Club (Fla.).
Girls: national champion Long Island Yellow Jackets (N.Y.), runner-up Stars Gold (Va.), Top of the Bay (Md.), Long Island Top Guns (N.Y.), and sportsmanship award winner Desert Heat (Ariz.).
Also slated for automatic bids to the 2012 US Lacrosse U15 National Championship are the champion and second-, third- and fourth-place
finishers from each of these 2012 US Lacrosse U15 Regional Championships:
West Regional Championship — Phoenix, Ariz.
— June 1-3, 2012
Central Regional Championship — Arlington, Texas
— June 8-10, 2012
Southeast Regional Championship — Raleigh, N.C.
— June 15-17, 2012
Winning or placing in the top four at a 2012 regional championship represents a guaranteed path to a berth in the national
championship, complete with free or discounted registration. Teams may register now through March 15, 2012, to compete in one or more regional championships, which in 2012 will also field tournaments at the U11 and U13 age levels.
US Lacrosse is once again returning its U15 National Championship to the ESPN High School (formerly Rise) Games at the ESPN Wide
World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., where the participating lacrosse teams will be showcased alongside top athletes from other sports.
The girls’ championship will run July 24-26, followed by the boys’ event July 27-29. Lacrosse Magazine, the flagship publication of US
Lacrosse, will provide live coverage at www.laxmagazine.com.
