Four member of the Long Island Express were named club All-American at the National Scholastic Club Lacrosse Association (NSCLA) “Champion’s Cup” tournament at St. Joseph’s HS in Metuchen, N.J. in late July.
The four were:
*Matthew Chanenchuk, Class of 2012, Attack, St. Anthony’s, committed to Navy;
*Ryan Palasek, Class of 2012, Defense, Rocky Point, committed to Syracuse;
*Brian Dunne, Class of 2013, Defense, Chaminade, committed to Duke;
*Danny Fowler, Class of 2013, Goalie, Chaminade.
Over 90 college coaches were in attendance, including over 30 of the top Division 1 programs. The event has emerged as a premier recruiting venue.
The 14 NSCLA member affiliates besides Long Island Express are: LB3 (PA), NY Roadhawks, Edge Elite (Ontario), CT Hurricanes, LI Express, NJ Patriot, Leading Edge (NJ), Baltimore Crabs, Roughriders (MD), Madlax (Md/Va), Team Carolina, True Lacrosse (Chicago), NH Tomahawks and Denver Elite. There also was a division for combined 2012/2013 players.
“We share the same values as the teams in this organization,” said LB3 founder and director Liam Banks, a former Ward Melville and Syracuse great. “These are true club teams, not all-star teams.”
Banks noted that the NCSLA is supported by many top college coaches, including board member Bill Tierney, the legendary coach at Denver and formerly of Princeton.
“One of the main reasons we joined was to get the opportunity to play at the highest level,” Banks said. “And anything that coach Tierney is involved with is respected.
“This is a chance to showcase our players and they have created an environment where coaches expect to see great players and great competition. Our players get a lot of calls from college coaches because of this event.”
